Fire Within
I have never considered myself a writer. I was fond of writing stories and poems as a child, but since then I have seemed to let slide that old pleasure I once enjoyed. The world was so fanciful and exciting as a young girl. I know in my mind it still is, but I wish my heart was as reckless as a child's in that I wasn't afraid to express my delight in the form of story and art...and that I would yet see the world for more than meets my so often critical and undazzled eyes. Even though some of my reckless innocence has faded over time, though, I feel it warming in me from time to time. When I go running through the woods, the restless pressure in my chest lifts itself and I am free to be who I am in God's presence, and able to be delighted by His beauty. It is in those times I make poems in my head. The desire to create, experience, and be full of joy is always in my heart. Unfortunately, I am quite busy with running, work, and the seemingly incessant summons of my homework. These things need not discourage or hinder me from praising God through my words and creativity, though (granted, God is the ultimate creator and we only mimick/interpret what He has already made). I recently came across a quote that goes like this: "If a small voice inside of you tells you that you cannot paint, then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced."
When it comes to things that we love or using gifts that God has graciously granted us with, then we can certainly make time to use them, either for the glory of the Lord or to give yourself a small break. If it's taking time to do something you enjoy or serving the Lord, He is actually glorified either way if you are always giving thanks and acknowledging Him. It is good for our hearts, too, especially to do the things we love. If there is some joy you once knew in the past that has been pushed to the back burner over time, think about bringing that hobby or thing back into your life. God does not mean for us to always be working, preoccupied with tasks, and worried. He wants our lives to be full of joy as we worship Him in all that we do - yes, even in the world of work there His joy is to be found - but He has blessed us each with our own way of expressing glory to Him through things in life that we sincerely enjoy. Find, or refind, yours, and do not disregard it as a waste of time.
I realize I titles this blog "Fire Within" and I have thus far not spoken of fire once haha. Well, I apologize, though I will keep the title. Fire Within is a book I am reading dealing with a deep life of prayer and experiencing God in ways uncommon to the standard Christian's life. I am being inspired like never before to seek God and pray so that I may experience His love and direction in a way that I know would drastically change my life. I am excited to see what God stirs up in my heart this year, and to feel my own fire for Him turn from flicker to flame. I feel that one way to start is by writing about Him and by again embracing the love for poetry and art that I once had. I am going to use them for Him and to draw closer to Him, because it is better for me to write down/externalize my love and thoughts than to keep them in my head. I am looking forward to embarking upon this little journey and pray that my hands and mind work together to follow my heart's desire.
Anyway, it is late and I must go to bed. Goodnight.
